Each plan gives you a set number of words every month. Words you do not use roll over for one month. Top-up and sign-up words never expire.
Yearly plans get the same monthly amount, refilled every month for the whole year.
When your words refill, unused plan words from the month before are kept for one more month. Older unused plan words expire at that point.
Plan words are used before top-up and sign-up words, so the words that never expire are kept for last.
Your remaining words are shown at the top of every page when you are signed in, and in My account together with the date of your next refill.
